sailforfun15
I've read that tanks can cycle in two weeks, but it appears that my tank may have cycled in 9 days. I set up the following on March 2: Mini Bow 7 with stock lighting, (upgraded to 32W PC a few days later) 10 pounds Nature's Ocean Live Aragonite 7.5 lbs cured (2 weeks) Fiji live rock from LFS AquaClear Mini with no filtration media Marineland 50W heater 5 gallons Oceanic-mixed water On March 11 my test kits arrived and (after reliving my high school and college chem labs) I got the following results: Date/Time: 11-Mar-04 14:00 CST Deg. F: 78.00 SG: 1.025 pH: 8.4 Alk: Normal Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0 Calcium: 450 ppm I measured the SG with a refractometer that I had just calibrated. I want to bring this down to 1.024. I was suprised at the other results and will repeat all the tests this weekend. Is it possible to cycle so quickly? The rock seemed to be nicely cured and the hitchikers (a green star polyp, a limpet, some red tube anemones, at least 3 small brittle stars, and a mess of aiptaisia) seem to be thriving. I think I'm ready for my first water change and the cleanup crew. Todd Link to comment
