Drip acclimating with airline?

I have been reading a lot about how to do it but I still don't know about setting up the airline.

 

Do I get a syphon action going?

 

Wouldn't a valve stop the syphon if I try to slow the water flow?

 

Sorry still trying to understand how to acclimate before I get some snails.

Hi,

Personnaly I do a knot in the drip line. The tighter the slower the drip. I try to get 2 drops/sec.

I drip in a separate small rubbermaid container about 1G size and I double the original water volume with aquarium water. Discard half and same process again ... I do that 3 times (about 1.5 to 2 hours) and then the organism back in the aquarium and I discard the water.

That's my way... ther may be other

I got a plastic valve from my lfs. after you get the suction going you just turn the screw to adjust the flow. you can close it and you don't lose the suction, it just stops the flow. the brand of valve was lee's, Its blue you just slide a 1/4 inch hose over the end.

or you can use a syringe or a turkey baster.

 

I think most of us around here have tased nasty saltwater before...
