How many watts do I need for a 10 gallon hex?

Should I go with 18 or 36? I think 36 since is pretty tall. I"m newbie at this and haven't set up my tank up yet.

It depends what you want to keep. In general go with the best lights you can afford. 36 over a 10 gal hex not enough for a reef set up.

 

tall tank = more light needed

 

Look around the lighting forum and see what other people are doing.
