bp_968
I set this tank up in december and am just now getting a slight growth of coraline. I topoff and do water changes with Distilled water from walmart (usually reads zero on Phosphates). I am getting a slight amount of brown algae, some bubble algae and a little hair algae. Is this a normal rate of growth for coraline? My calcium levels read 300ppm. Is that causing problems for the coraline? thanks! Ben Link to comment
tinyreef
bump ca levels is a little low. 380+ would be better. bright lighting inhibits some coralline growth actually. magnesium levels also need to be sufficient as coralline sucks that almost as fast as calcium. you can either supplement or wc to hit desired levels. good water flow also promotes good growth as 'nuisance' algae is outcompeted by the coralline. btw, it should never read phosphates. PO4 is poison to stonys (algae and coral). inhibits the calcium layering or something. ??? hth Link to comment
