I am about to buy the aquac Remora for my 35gal hex tank. Should I spend the extra money and get the 1. surface prefilter box and 2. thepre-drilled drain fitting?

I would get the surface overflow box. The DOC you want your skimmer to remove is located in the top 1" of water, and the best way to strictly draw from the surface water is with a surface overflow cup.

 

The pre-drilled drain fitting is for the collection cup. If you plan to leave the skimmer unattended for longer periods of time you can get the pre-drilled drain. If it's for a tank in your own home, it's probably not necessary as you can look at the collection cup each day and manually empty it if necessary.
