The LFS told me the MH rule is 10-13 watts per gallon. If so then this would be way more than enough for my 65.

TRIPLE 400 W MH REEF Light with 72" Reflector

400 Watt Metal Halide Advance Electromagnetic Ballast

manufactured by Advance Transformer

458 input watts

For 400Watt Metal Halide lamp

Circuit type:CWA

120/347 Volt input

All Aluminum construction made with T6061 Aluminum.

Socket bracket constructed with solid (.50) aluminum

Premium porcelain construction, Mogal Base

4KV, 600 volt, 1500 Watt Pulse

I will have a friend make the proper hood. He recommened two 10k and one 20k in the middle. The total is 430. delivered (no bulbs). But it sounds good to me. What do you all think? This will take me to around 18 watts per gallon. Here is the site.

What lights you get depend on what you want to keep. With those lights, I assume you want SPS and clams? Watts per gallon stuff is a bunch of bunk, IMO. Every case is different. In your case, for a 65 gallon, I'd say you're going a little overboard.

In a 65 gallon you should be able to keep just about anything with 2x250 watts easy. Probably even a single 250 watt.

Hope you spec'ed some fans to go along with those lights. You're thinking of enclosing them in a hood? Its going to get HOT
