Blue reef is my favorite. Two awesome display tanks. Aquatic empire (use to be reef jungle) is another they just redid their store so I haven't been there since then. Beyond the reef is a third but I'm not a fan of the owner. Not very good customer service. Awesome live rock though. But I would go with blue reef and aquatic empire.

Nice. That's right down the street from where my grandfather lives. I'll have to check that out next time I'm visiting him. Give us something to do together. I usually just have him drop me off at the casino... lol

Blue reef aquatics is on losee and tropical in north las Vegas. Aquatic empire is on rainbow and oakey I think. And beyond the reef is on Gibson and the 215 in Henderson. There is also trop aquarium on tropicana and pecos I think.

The guy who runs Beyond The Reef is a schezo. Some days I go there and he'll totally have a cool conversation with me for hours. Other days he doesn't know who I am and gives me stank attitude.

I like Lucky Tropical Fish on Spring Mtn. and Decatur although lately their selections have been lacking.

I personally love Trop-Aquarium. They have the best prices in town IMO (especially fish) and sometimes you can find some rare corals and inverts in their tanks at an awesome price.

There's Atlantis on Lake Mead and 95. Their livestock is way overpriced but it's a great place to get live rock.

I've never been to Aquatic Empire although I did some design work for Reef Jungle before they closed down.

And I have yet to make a point of visiting Blue Reef Aquatics.

Blue Reef Aquatics is well worth the drive from anywhere! It is by far the Best in Vegas. This place is clean, bright and has lots and lots of Inverts, fish, coral and awesome live rock with no hitchhikers like in the rock from the other side of town. Once you go to Blue Reef and meet the owners, you"ll never go anywhere else or wish they would move thier store closer to you as I do.

I will be visiting Blue Reef Aquatics on April 12. Since I will be in Vegas for the NAB at that time and on my way home!

I used to live in las vegas and have since moved up to alaska. a few months ago I had my parents pick me up 50 pounds of live rock from blue reef aquatics and gold streak it to me here in alaska(same day air freight) The rock is nice, but they did a terrible packaging job....if you can even call it that..they just threw nice live rock in a dry cardboard box and taped the hell outta it. no papertowels/heatpacks....it arrived pretty stinky and freezing cold. They even told my parents it was wrapped in wet towels....

I finally got a chance to visit Blue Reef Aquatics and I was thoroughly impressed. They're in North Las Vegas and I live in Henderson so it's quite a drive for me (about 45 minutes or so). First off the place is really clean. This is refreshing considering some of the shops I've seen make meth labs look like hospitals. But what really impressed me the most was the livestock selection and the prices. There's a wide array of corals and inverts to choose from and a good selection of fish that are nice and healthy. They have a good variety of live rock to choose from that are sorted by size. It was more than enough to make me want to start a pico all over again.

The dry goods section isn't anything to write home about but they have all the basic necessities and just about anything that a person in this hobby could possibly need at the last minute. I have a real problem with shops that don't have Chemi-Pure on stock or the most popular brands of salt as those things should be pretty basic.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that the prices are low or "cheap" especially since the latter somewhat denotes an inferior quality. If anything the prices are more than fair and when matched with the quality of the livestock, that's when you feel like you're really getting your money's worth. Also the owner and staff are warm and friendly and the place all in all is open and inviting.

I didn't make any purchases today but I'm definitely going back with some cash in hand. My only complaint is that it's too far from me but that's probably good for my wallet.

Today was my first time back at BRA since they expanded into the space next door. Impressive place - saw some things that don't pop up in Vegas LFS too often, like maxi minis and Pederson's shrimp. Unlike fab, I did support them by buying a few things. :P

It's a bit of a drive for me too, about twenty miles, but worth it. The closest LFS to me is completely useless.

YES! I saw all the maxi-minis and the Pederson's shrimp. Very nice. What did you end up getting? I'm totally all for supporting them in fact I wanted to get that Pederson's shrimp and a maxi-mini but I kinda told myself that I wouldn't add anything in my tank until I get a handle of my algae problem. And the flatworm plague. :(

Which LFS is close to you?

I've been there a few times and really like the store too. My mom lives in Vegas and has a fish only tank. We usually go with Atlantis, but her next fish may come from there.

Atlantis is closest to me. last couple times I've been in there it's been awful - gross slime algaes, disintegrating corals, sickly fish. that place has gone downhill the last few years.

I got a few zoanthid frags, nothing fancy. the guy was great - let me wander for a solid half hour before asking if I needed help. I love that!

I totally agree with you on Atlantis. And to think it used to be my fave LFS at one point. I haven't been there in a long while and the last time I was there their tanks were looking rough, exactly as you described. And they had a frag tank set up with sad looking frags.

Do you know what salt they use at Blue Reef? I'm still getting my saltwater from Lucky although I really should go back to making my own. They also let me wander around the store without harassing me which is nice.

I noticed a sign for saltwater @ $1/gal, and I saw they had their own cute branded 5gal jugs, but I didn't ask what kind of salt it was. also, did you see that little shallow squarish tank? not the 80g one or whatever, the one right in front of it. omg cute.
