70 watt metal halide in Halogen pendant

i was scouting around the internet and in shops trying to see if they sold any metal halide lamps, well fortunately they do, but the problem is they are all really expensive more than i am willing to spend for my 10 gallon tank.

i have been looking for a 70 watt metal halide bulb and couldnt find it in most big retail hardware stores, but surprisingly i found it in a relatively secluded hardware store with a really helpful thai guy at the counter and it was relatively cheap it cost around 56 bucks which divided by 3= USD

so with that problem solved i went online, searching for DIY metal halide pendants and found very useful threads here on nano reef( if you were wondering.. the hobby is only a few months old), but the problem is the pendant meant for the 70 watt metal halide bulb cost about 300 bucks or 100 USD which is for my student budget quite costly, and it weighs a ton im guessing the ballast is inside the pendant, actually i am not really sure if it is a pendant, could be meant for the floor. but then i found a good looking pendant but it was meant for a halogen bulb.

actually i just wanted to know if the 70 watt metal halide bulb would fit in a halogen pendant and whether it would work or would i have to mod it i could take some pictures but i would have to leave that for another day,

any opinions?

I didn't look at the thread. However, I've swapped 150 watt halides into halogen pendants before. You'll need a 70 watt halide base

A ballast

And some wire nuts

I imagine you could buy wire and wire nuts cheaper locally. As far as the ballast and socket, I don't know if any companies ship world wide.

i guess with enough searching i could find some, though i might need to find a local forum to get some advice..

Keep an eye on the dry goods classified section here. A lot of reefers are switching to LED setups and I imagine someone would be willing to ship a ballast to Malaysia.
