an odd question about halides and algae

Everyone knows that most annoying algaes are worst when cycling or right after a cycle. I havent really seen it spawn in a well maintained, established aquarium anyway.

But my question is, if I have no corals or other life forms in my tank, if I take my UV shield off my halides will it kill the algae? I figured it'd be a great way to rid algae but it might not work. It also kills beneficial bacteria so yeah. Tell me what you guys think.

Thanks,

Nip

Hmmm sounds like a good idea in theory, but I think you would be effect some of the good in your tank. Although a tank may look to be empty(life) there is always something in there.
