DSparks
Good info, thanks cthedaytrader. What about a 20k Metal Halide and two 13 watt PC 10K's? Makes you go "HMMMMM?". Link to comment
cthedaytrader
not sure, guess u would have to test that out, or find someone with it. But then you cant have actinic alone, or dawn and dusk which is cool to have. Sorry dont know about double ended either, never had them, never relaly researched them, they seem like a haslte, having to worry about UV and stuff. Link to comment
cthedaytrader
on eother thing, you should pay the extra money and go for electronic ballasts. Unless you really want to budget cut. Link to comment
cthedaytrader
sorry I didnt read that you were at school doing this before. I would give two other recomendations then. I take it you have a ten? But the tanks arent that pricey at that size. You could mak eyoru life easy upgrade to 15g, then you can fit a 2 55W fixture ont top. 2X65 http://www.hellolights.com/242xcoraqpch1.html, or $131 2x36W http://www.hellolights.com/242xcoraqpch.html on sale for $99, both come with the bulbs I think, That witha 25-30 dollar tank and yoru still way under budget. Or you can switch to a 7g mini bow which are cool, and easier to move around and take up less space. It will prbably have a neater appearance too. You can usally find them for around 50-60 bucks, then you can just put in a csl 32W retrofit 50 bucks at premium aquatics, so now your looking at ~120 for tank and lights, and alot of people have a lot of success with softies and even some sps in these tanks. Check this site out, great tank and info: http://www.oc-creative.com/reef/index.asp good luck Link to comment
KrackerG
Originally posted by theclearblue After going through all of my options I think that right now the best decision would be to go with the CSL fixture. Once I'm comfortable with the caretaking of corals I'll make a second tank (I have a 20L sitting around) and use that with MH and some harder to keep corals. What do you guys think? LOL! sounds a lot like me when I was looking for lights for my 10g. I love my CSL hood...w/ or w/o MH but I think your making an excellent decision going w/ the CSL... Link to comment
theclearblue
Hmm.. well I posted a WTB in the classifieds, maybe something appealing will show up. I saw a 400w MH that just showed up... 40 watts per gallon - I think that might be overkill. I'll let you guys know what I do. Dsparks - Don't worry about it, your thread is my thread.
