kgoldy
I'm trying to decide if mixing some "substrate" in with the sand would add to the look of my new setup, or if it'd be too distracting. I'm setting up a 75 gallon RR... Substrate comes in 16 lb bags, sand comes in 20lbs for same price. Maybe 1:3 or 2:3 ratio of substrate:sand F&S (I'll be buying local, here's the pics though) Substrate closeup Sand closeup Link to comment
mrbigshot
dont use any substrate. just use sand. substrate just holds in poop and causes issues down the road. personally i wouldn't bother with either product, a scoopfull of sand from an established tank will do the same in hours. i would buy sand from marco rocks, $109 shipped to your door for what you need. you need about 45 lbs per inch of depth to cover the bottom of your 75, either less than 2" or more than 4". 160 lbs would do about 4" if you rock is on the glass taking up some space. otherwise you'd need 180lbs for a 4" depth. its a hell of a lot cheaper thats for sure. comes in usps flat rate boxes so it takes about 3 days to your door. kgoldy
I'd like to have a few burrowing pistol shrimp and gobies... I'm not sure that fine grade of sand would work for me. I'm looking at having about a 2" sand bed. 4" or deeper eats up too much volume in my opinion. Link to comment
