matt the fiddler
at a very quick glance xenia. does it pulse? Link to comment
Angel
Looks like a type of Xenia to me. If it isn't, then it could be a close relative to it. Do the tips pulse? It looks blue to me (actinic lighting?) and mine is pink. I know that there are different variations and colors, so just do a quick search on Xenia and you should be able to find some helpful info. matt the fiddler
if you have the blue xenia it is one of the rare varieties.. can't tell by your pic.. Link to comment
AzeX
Umm well the person I got it from said it was a Xenia. The thing is it does not pulse. And it kind of worries me. It grows...a lil fast to tell you the truth. The eight tentacles on each tip is kind of long compared to the ones that pulse. They seem shorter and more feathery then the one I have there. Yeah my light is a NO Actinic 15 watts. Its kind bad yeah Imma order a 32 watt 50/50 soon. Link to comment
bobioden
How long has your tank been set-up? What are your water conditions? Ammonia, nitrate, etc... That pic of your clown fish is not a very good sign. Link to comment
matt the fiddler
hmm. yea- it looks liek the tank never cycled well.. or jsut got stired up a lot. cna't tell in teh pics.. sugestion.. remove the rubberband- the xenia would probaly attach with in 2 days fully. no need to keep the band in.. as bobio said- we need soem setup specs- age, equipt.. to be able to help you.. BTW. some xenia don't pulse check out this months reef central article on xenia http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-02/ac/f...ature/index.htm Link to comment
AzeX
Umm yeah that clown died a long time....a friggin mistake to buy that fish from the beginning even with early warnings. My tank is fine now though after that clown died there was a heavy ammonia spike. Ammonia is 0 Nitrite is 0 pH is 8.2 Nitrate is somewhere 0-10 (fas test kit or something) My equipment is in my sign. I took a few more pics to try to help... http://community.webshots.com/photo/115029...118614091dSISNP http://community.webshots.com/photo/115029...118614102EYJhOd http://community.webshots.com/photo/115029...118614114JhEviX http://community.webshots.com/photo/115029...118614122pAbCqm Link to comment
AzeX
Wow you guys looking through that webshot thing huh? =P The REALLY cloudy tank is the first day tank. I was reading how to setup it up and they said to have the water prepared. Then add live rock and sand. Then I was dumb enough to believe what the live sand package said. "Pours in clean, no need to rinse...." Wow what a mistake and the REALLY cloudy tank is the result. The tank is nice now. Very clear I got a video but I dunno how to show it to you guys. matt the fiddler
woah wait a sec.. just to clarify... were the cloudy pics [from day 1] when you had fish and coral in the tank? IE- how long did you wait LR and LS only before adding the clownfish and xenia? yet it sounds like you have been testing... if those levels are reading right- your tank should be cycled now.. just curious Link to comment
AzeX
The really cloudy tank was day one, 2 months ago. Nothing was in there except live rock and sand. The Fish I added was 1 month after I started and the Xenia 1 month 3 weeks after I started. Link to comment
vetteman
Do a search for Anthelia Polyps, I have some and they do have longer tentacles. Link to comment
AzeX
Hey it probably is from the results I've found thxs Link to comment
WoNg$ta
Umm they are most likely Pom Pom Xenias.. With the new light they should be pulsing Keep us posted Link to comment
Arden
It is a species of Xenia but not all species pulse and even those that do sometimes refuse to pulse under good conditions. Xenia pulsation is a mystery even to the experts. Link to comment
