Shadow
Hi, i've been wondering if screw-in compacts (you know, the one that fits in a normal incadescent socket) are a viable alternative for nano-reef aquarium lighting. if i would have a NO T8 for acinic lighting, would screw in compact work? An interesting article on screw in power compact http://saltaquarium.about.com/gi/dynamic/o.../%7Edon/cf.html -Shadow Link to comment
Joe
I have never tried using Screw-in PC bulbs for main tank lighting. I have seen people use them as refugium lights but not display tank lights. The biggest problem that I hear with them is they shift to the red spectrum too much after they age a few months. your almost better off getting your ballest from ahsupply.com and the bulbs from hellolights.com thats what I did and LOVE them! the color is great and my animals love um. The choice is yours you can try them but I dont think you will be happy with them in the long term. If you want a stable light system that you wont have to screw around with though go with the U Shaped PC bulbs they are not that much more expensive in the long run! Well thats my 2 cents Joe Link to comment
Shadow
Joe, the thing is, i don't really want to order from the net, even if it's cheaper. I live in CND, and with the exchange rate + the shipping and handling, theres basictly no saving. what i'm trying to find, is some pc ballast at a home improvement shop and i'll buy the bubls at a lfs. i'll go in fish store down town this weekend, and maybe, just maybe they sell pc ballast/kits. i think i'll go try my luck at Wall Mart too -Shadow Link to comment
