So here's a pic of my:

(1) 24w original

(2) 32w Retrofits

Total: 88watts

So far no heat problems, but did use a vornado to play it safe...

Adding 8 30mm x 30mm laptop fans to the hood, I'm going to drill holes just above the plastic splash guard area...

This will bring in just cool air, hot air will vent out the left and right sideslots, plus 1 hole up top (where the button switch is located)

I'll post pics when finished...

plus I may take out the 24w and throw in another 32w, bringing it up to 96w

8 30 x 30mm fans....

I'll probably run these in parallel...

Will try and take more pics...

Also in this image is my Sanders Piccollo skimmer, I've modified the collection cup so right now it ALL fits inside the sump area.

I'm going to add a 'side cup' on to the collection cup.

This way I'll have more area for the foam....

will post pics on this too...

Can you elaborate on how you put the 2 32 watt bulbs in the hood? What kind of modifications did you need to make to the stock hood. Where did you get the 32 watt retrofits, where are the ballasts, etc.

Looks great!

Well I bought the 32w retrofit kits from Drs. Foster and smith...

inside the kit were metal clamps with screws...

Basically, I figured out where I wanted all 3 lamps to be.

Then marked the reflector with a marker. Drilled holes in the reflector, used some small bolts/nuts to hold the clamps in place.

All fit perfectly inside the plastic splash guard

I'm still working on drilling holes on top of the hood. I want some more air circulation inside the plastic splash guard. In hindsight, I would have purchased 20mm x 20mm fans instead of 30mm x 30mm fans...

I bought these online...

The ballasts will be mounted outside the sump area. Not sure how exactly...

Until the fans are finished, a small vornado fan is aimed at the tank. The fan is about 10 feet away with just a medium setting, and no heat rises at all. Temp inside tank (water) 78 degrees...

As for corals, still figuring it all out but...

1 blue cup pagoda

1 alveopora frag

1 candycane frag

1 porites w/ xmas worms

1 clove polyp frag (w/ strange small white sea cucumber hitchiker)

1 small xenia frag (lost most of it, but have tiny area left)

1 zoo colony

small shrooms (assorted) frags

2 small green star polyp mats

Thats about it for corals...

trying to figure out mixing SPS, LPS, leathers, softies, etc. ( I read pro's and con's to mixing corals)

Don't know the hellolights.com lights you are referring too... will check them out...

If I was really brave, I'd scrap all the PC's and figure out how to put in a 70w metal halide.

Maybe on my next nanocube!

Thanks,

Dre

Dre,

Thanks for the detailed details. I've been scoping out which bulbs to use that would fit inside the canopy. Now i know!! Thanks a bunch. I can't wait to boost the light in my nano cube.

Rock on!!
