nanobrad
How do you mount a retro light kit in an acrylic canopy? Link to comment
Dave ESPI
Considering the fact that we have NO IDEA what U have, our purpose to help Answer the question.... is difficult. We need more info and perhaps a pic? Follow the included dirrrrrrrrrrrrrrections. Drill with a sharp bit. and dont force anything... or else you will be buying a new hood. Link to comment
nanobrad
Jesus christ...this board is full of idiots Do you just screw the kit to the inside top of the acrylic canopy. Most screws will come out on other side. Link to comment
Drysocket
What kind of hood is it? ....if it's an eclipse, you can buy a retro that's made for your specific hood. Link to comment

NaNO ReeFiN
Actually, he's been a member since Sept. of last year... but anyway, like HuBu said, get shorter screws if they're coming out the other side of the hood. Link to comment
Mnesarchus
Some people just arent very helpful, dont judge the whole board by what one person says. Some are nicer, I am new too. Link to comment

jjharrisx4
Likely the acrylic is too thin to simply find a screw that is just long enough to hold and not go through. I would drill where you want to attach, and then using stainless steel bolts (if possible, countersink the heads for good looks) bolt it from the outside in. Use locking washers or nylon self locking nuts so it won't work loose and fall in the tank. Also, don't overtighten or you'll crack the acrylic. I'd stay away from most adhesives, unless you can find a heat resistant silicone that you could use to attach the fixture. Many adhesives like double sided tape will simply come apart due to heat and moisture. Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Since the canopy is made of acrylic, you could glue some thicker pieces of acrylic to the top, right where you want to place the screws. That way they will go into the attached acrylic and you won't have to worry about it coming out the other side. That is probably the best option, since the canopy likely isn't made of material thick enough to put a screw securely into without it showing. Link to comment
NanoReefer53
idiots ? ??? who can't hang up a retro kit ? nm, i don't wanna start a flame war. Anywho, one of the many ways you can do it. Drill a hole or two in the acrylic canopy. Slide a bolt down and hold up the retro kit with a nut on the bolt. Or to make it more aesthetically pleasing, do what Chris suggested. Use weld-on instead of regular glue because it will molecually bond the acrylic pieces together. Link to comment
second2n0ne
I personally used washers but the acrylic idea is good if you have the clearance. Countersinking a nut and bolting the retro on is also another great idea. Let us know what method you used and be VERY carefull drilling acrylic...it has a tendency to shatter...buy bits made for acrylic! Link to comment
