snookface1
My tank is 3 week old ammonia is 0 but the nitrates are still up 10 to 15. I was cleaning my 55 gal last night and added carbon to it. At the same time I decided to add some in my 13 gal HOB. Should have I while its cycling or should I remove it? Link to comment
Physh1
I don't like carbon while cycling.....kinda inhibits the process but it seems like your at a point in the cycles where it really won't make much of a difference. Cameron Link to comment
Isaka
Some people use carbon during the cycle to try to reduce the smell.... I wouldn't use it during the cycle personally but I don't see any reason why it would hurt anything. Link to comment
AnthonyNguyen
i have to agree with Isaka, i dont run carbon during my cycle, i run it unless its stink, carbon make the water has more nitrate, and keep changing water every week's, 10% and distill water only would slow down the nitrate problems, i dont use carbon unless your water has an ordor to it. zzpw3x
Carbon will not inhibit the cycle. With that said, it's not going to help with the Nitrate either. Link to comment
