Ignite
LFS has a sale on these http://www.hellolights.com/92x9wcomiaqc.html and was wondering if this is enough light to grow softs in a 5.5g tank? Link to comment
bp_968
Maybe, but I did this for less than 100$. check out the "DIY 70w MH setup" thread in DIY. Link to comment
Ignite
I'm looking for other options besides MH, I don't want to spend that kind of money on this setup. Link to comment
Ignite
What if I replaced both bulbs with 13W Coralife 50/50? Link to comment
cookiemn
Why don't you look for someone who is selling their used one. I just picked up a JBJ PC light with 2x36 watts bulbs for $45 used from a local LFS. I would try that route before having to settle of a DIY. bp_968, I really liked your DIY, but the wife doesnt want any type of pendant lighting. Link to comment
bp_968
Thanks cookie. I think its kind of getto, but I'll build it up better when I get a *JOB* lol. Ignite, after setting up a curly DIY hood (78watts) I have to tell you its not even close to as nice as the MH. You can buy the bulb for 59$ online (10k ushio), the pendant for 9$ at lowes, and the ballast for 25$ on ebay (though its not my favorite ballast). 95$. Curly setup was: 10$ wood 32$ bulbs 14$ in fixtures and misc wires 5$ in paint/etc so 65$ or so to setup. Its worth the extra 30$ without a doubt. you can spend 30$ on 1-2 frags. Do the lighting right. I wish I had and I would have an extra 60$ now to spend on corals. Ben Link to comment
Ignite
I'm from Canada, so the prices are a lot more, and most places won't ship here. Link to comment
