trmiv
I'm starting my 16 gallon nano soon, I'm curious how much water I should change a week? I was planning on doing a gallon a week, but I've seen a lot of people say 10%, which would be 1.6 (might as well do 2). I have no skimmer, just a refugium, and a aquaclean 150 that I can put carbon in if need be. So will one gallon a week cut it, or should I go up to two since I have no skimmer? Link to comment
cookiemn
trmiv, I usually do a 10-20% water changer per week depending on your tank's numbers. I think you shuould take some reading first before layign down a regiment of water changes. Link to comment
Reefmaniac
10% per week is what I recommend. Link to comment
Orange Crush
I do 1 in my 7. I suggest 2. Link to comment
trmiv
Hmmm, so two it is. Either way, it shouldn't be too bad. When I had my 100 gallon FO, I was doing like 25-30 gallon changes once a month, or 15 gallon changes twice a month, that was a pain. Link to comment
Reefmaniac
On a big tank like that, you can get away with longer periods of time without water changes. Check out the tanks owned by the guys of www.championlighting.com. One of them only does water changes every 3 months. Link to comment
Orange Crush
16 gallons isn't a "big" tank. By nano standards, maybe. Those tanks are 75 gal or more, with skimmers and all the trimmings. Without skimming, you should really do 10% weekly. Trust me - your tank isn't as happy without it. Link to comment
trmiv
Two is fine with me, I was just curious. Really, one gallon or two gallons doesn't make much difference to me if I'm going to do it weekly anyway, which I was planning on. Link to comment
Reefmaniac
Well, I was actually talking about your old 100g tank in terms of less frequent water changes. Link to comment
pandabehr
On a 16 I would do 2 gallons. Link to comment
