jeirdo
I am in the process of setting up a seahorse tank and was wondering what would be a good macroalgae. It is a 20 gallon column tank and will have one 10w-10,000k power compact & one 10w-50/50. Is this even enough lighting to keep healthy macros? If so, I am looking for something that is nice and upright and something that will not completely overrun the tank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Link to comment
BrentC
Not sure on the lighting, but for an 'upright' macro botryocladia comes to mind... Link to comment

jeremai
the tree-like Caulerpas would be good - C. paspaloides and C. cupressoides come to mind. Link to comment
BrentC
I think he wants something that's easy to keep in check though Jer. Link to comment
johnmaloney
both of those caulerpas are easy. super easy to prune. As odd as it sounds if you put a chaeto ball in there it will probably be the favorite of your horses. They love sitting above it watching pods gracilaria would be my first pick. Here is a list I made awhile back that you may find useful: * = will hitch ^ = biotope *^ Cactus Caulerpa - *^ Caulerpa Mexicana - *^ Caulerpa Prolifera - Chaeto loves to hunt around it *^ Dictyota ciliolata - *^ Fern Caulerpa - tie or in multiple spots *^ Manatee Grass - *^ Grape Caulerpa - *^ Saw Blade Caulerpa - *^ Heterosiphona - *^ Suction Cup Caulerpa *^ Oar Grass *^ Red Mangroves * Black Mangrove *^ Botryocladia (Red Grape) - *^ Christmas Tree - *^ Green Gracilaria - *^ Halimeda (Monile) - *^ Halimeda scabra (Money Plant) - *^ Halymenia - * Halymenia duchassaignii- *^ Red Gracilaria - *^ Mermaid's Wine Glass - dwarf sea horses only *^ Mermaid's Shot Glass - dwarf sea horses only *^ Pencil Cap - *^ Shaving Brush - *^ Codium - ^ Mermaid's Fan - *^ Sargassum - biotope in the sense sargassum drift is very common there *^ Fauchea - *^ Fire Fern - *^ Byrothamnion triquetrum (Flame Algae everywhere but on NR) Link to comment
jeirdo
John, I was hoping you would chime in!! Thanks! I will definitely order some of the red gracilaria & after visiting reef cleaners I really like the codium....will it do well with my lighting, or does it need something more intense? Link to comment
