Couple Noob questions, check my parameters please

1. I am planning on upgrading my 10 gallon system by adding a sump via an overflow. How strong should the return pump be? How do you know?

 

2. Are these parameters ok? If not how can I fix them?

Ammonia: .05ppm doing a water change

PH- 8.0

Nitrate 7ppm

Nitrite - 0

Parameters are fine, but ammonia should be zero. What test kit brands are you using?

API Master Saltwater Kit. But, for Ammonia I think I acutally used the one from my freshwater tank. The freshwater kit I mean. That might have affected it. Im going to do a water change anyway.

The ammonia (and for most other tests) color cards are different for saltwater.

That would probably be the reason for the hammer not being happy and losing the shrimp. Like you said above, do a wc as soon as possible. Get that Ammonia down and your hammer will probably be fine.
