arpanlib
hi all, my tank is almost 2.5 months old now. there is something white which is growing in the tank, on all the rocks and it is multiplying very fast. it is white in colour, has spiny, needled tentacles all over the body and come out straight from the rocks. they are hardly 0.5 cms. i really dont know what they are and if they are good for my tank or not. help would be greatly appreciated. arpanlib Link to comment
Toyfreek
Hi Heres what I found foraminiferans. These little creatures are basically shelled protozoans, one celled organisms (Subphylum: Sarcodina - the amoebas). They form shells primarily composed of calcareous material, with siliceous material from sponges, or other organic material. They are mostly sessile (non-moving), but can move with the use of temporary structure called a "pseudopodia". This little "arm" reaches out and pulls the rest of the critter along. In any event, they are harmless bacterial/detrital consumers. There are many different shell shapes and colors that these guys may have. Heres the article with pictures: http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/main_page...s/faq_rock3.htm HTH, Toy Link to comment
