Should I cover the fuge?

I am planning on using an Aqua Clear 500 as a 'fuge on a 7gal minibow. I will have macro-algae in the 'fuge so I will light it.

I want to reduce evaporation as much as possible. Is there any reason not to cover the 'fuge?

I know that the cover that comes with the Aqua Clear is translucent brown. I was thinking about making another cover out of transparent acrylic.

 

Is this a good plan?
