I have been reading in some posts about the use of refuges. There is probably a great thread about them, and i'm unaware of it, but if anyone would like to give me the newb tour of fuges, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Ok, thanks guys... I'm not partially enlightened. I don't think I'll need a refugium, since I won't have anything like a mandarin... Unless I've missed something important?

In what scenario? I can't think of anything that I'd want to raise that would be otherwise eliminated by predators... Unless I'm mistaken.

1. ability to provide natural filtration to the main tank

2. Provide a safe haven for pods and other food sources

3. Increase water volume which is always benefical a nano.

4. Increase water flow

5. A place to put your heater/skimmer and get all the crap outta the main display tank.

Seems like it fits many scenarios.

the macro in the fuge will filter all the stuff you dont want in your tank which leaves none for the nuisance algae. and you know what that means.

That's definitely a good reason. Back when I had my 55, i used TAP WATER... (sorry, I knew no better) and that green crap was my worst enemy!
