My LED e27 + GU10 LED BUILD THREAD (premade Ebay lights)

so we tested my bright white bulbs today.

 

 

i have 5 bright white and 2 blues

 

3" from the bulb (above surface of water) 1900 par

 

just below surface 700 par

 

halfway 200 par

 

1" from sand 150 par

 

 

the bright whites with the optics are super bright. could explain why a couple of my sps bleached out. lol

 

i have 3 3x1w and 2 1x3w bulbs for the bright whites.

 

the blues are 3x1w

 

the whites are 7000k

 

 

once the weather cools down a bit i might try a bunch more sps

 

 

 

today i rearranged the tank and upgraded my filter from a AC20 to a Whisper 60 lol. good amount of water exchange and flow now. Things seemed to be happy with the change.

i ordered 5 of the blue GU10 1x3w bulbs today to finally set up the tank with 50/50 its going to look amazing.

so do you think i could grow sps in my 5 gal with 2 blue n 2 cool white?

keep in mind that the optics on the bulbs are pretty directional unless you have them mounted pretty high above the tank... which would cause you to lose some brightness.. however.. when i removed the optics for the first couple months I had really good growth on the blue tip stag within a month or so it totally encrusted the plug it was on. I would probably recommend a couple more if you can.

 

i currently have 5 white and two blue but have 5 blue on the way to me. I plan on going 5 blue and 5 white. I want to see what sort of color response i can get with more blue. Right now its quite ballanced and looks great with the optics on the whites and optics off the two blues i have.. but i plan on trying all optics on 10 bulbs and see if i can get a ballanced look with the limited headroom that i have.

 

as long as you have your sps directly under the bulbs in the tank i would say you would have great luck with the sps.

 

i did notice in my tank that the sps that i had were browinging up (eventually lost them to a heat spike this summer) but i think with the optics on the blues i would have had better coloration.. i just didnt like the look of only two blue bulbs with optics on.

i'll take some pictures of the tank tomorrow so there is an update. everything is doing great. I have to try some sps again now that the heat is over with. all the zoas and softies are doing awesome. Alot of the new corals have some light shock when i first put them in.. but once they settle the colors are awesome.

 

Coraline is growing like crazy over the last couple months.

Here are some updated Pictures: Started April 2010 .. so almost 6 months now

 

The heat this summer took a toll on the tank. I lost ALL my sps corals. The Zoas did fine in the heat though. I find with the huge par levels now that i have the optics on almost all of the lights that corals take a few more days than normal to open up.. other than that the tank is doing great. I am glad the heat is gone and fall is here

 

I added the red mushrooms, and the feather duster the other day

I bought a 1gallon tank the other day that is going to be setup sometime in the near Future.. so keep posted

 

I plan on just having 2 blue and 1 white ..
