False or true perc, how 2 tell apart?

Is there a way I can tell the differance?

 

I bought tank bred clowns a while back, but I forgot which ones I have...False or True?

 

Silly of me, but is it possible to tell tme apart?

Basically, false percs have a much more basic orange and white, whereas true percs have tints of black and are usually darker, however, they can be told apart by the number of rays on the dorsal fin, true percs are meant to have more? I found a site a while back on the difference of the two fish, it was a rather lengthy article..... I will post back if I find it.....

You can tell by their dorsal fins. If I remember correctly, ocellaris clowns have 7 spines to their dorsal fin, and percula clowns have 5.

the black lining on the body of the clown. if its a thick black line - true perc. thin black lining - false.

Count the spines like Chris said, it's the most accurate way to identify clowns.

I'm not sure if this still works but it used to work on a tv show a long time ago and marshal mathers/eminem/slim shady asked a similar question not too long ago.

 

Try asking "Will the real percula please stand up?"

Try taking some photos and maybe you'd be able to count the spines on the photo instead of chasing around 2 clowns in the tank...

i thinks the color doesn't make a difference..its the spins..i think the false perc has a missing spin on its bottom fin or something like that
