ReefNewbie
I've been waiting for some Southdown to come in for the past 2 months and have decided to just go to the FS and buy LS for my 38 gallon. I am probably gonna go with a 3" sand bed. How many pounds of LS would I need to purchase for the tank? The tanks dimensions are the customary dimensions for a 38 rectangular tank. Thanks!! faust9
approximetly 125 lb I used 2650 kg/m^3 as the density of sand and 0.0212 m^3 as the volume. The 2650 is a close approximation of the actual density and the 0.212 is 3"x36"x12" converted to metric units (I'm an engineer so I use metric more often than not). 2650 kg/m^3 x 0.0212 m^3 = 56.279 kg 56.279 kg x 2.2 lb/kg = 123.81 or about 125 lbs of sand to get the 3" you want. Good luck. Link to comment
