how much is too much

High calcium will precipitate out, lowering your alkalinity.

You should stop using purple up, which is a crude form of dosing that isn't balanced. Calcium and alkalinity are connected to each other, with magnesium also important.

Don't dose what you're not testing for and what you don't need to be dosing. You can't know how much to dose until you test your tank.

So, what are your calcium level and other water parameters?

What is your livestock list?

How old is the tank?

In the meantime, read these articles:

Alkalinity, if it is in meq/L, is okay, but you should just observe it as going past 2.5 meq/L would be low. You don't need to add anything for shrooms; they don't have skeletons.

Coralline doesn't need much to grow. What does your newly mixed water test at? If those levels are in the normal ranges, then you don't need to be dosing.

It depends on whether he is measuring in dKH (which I doubt) or meq/L (Which is more probable here).
