Fnard
I put a Poly-Filter sponge in my tank yesterday and today noticed that it is turning red. According to the instructions, this is from the presences of iron. Is this a bad thing? What harm, if any, could this lead to? Link to comment

Fnard
Increased algae growth might be possible, including Macroalgae. I do have chaeto in the tank, this should consume the iron, correct? Should I be testing for iron, and if so, what would an acceptable range? Link to comment
ashaf22789
I had a tank a while back showing red poly filters(fish only). What i would do is inspect all your equipment and make sure there is no metal rusting in a pump or heater. Also maybe run a high strength magnet through your gravel to pull out any solid metals. Just put it in a couple of zip lock baggies. This plus a few waterchanges, id say maybe 10% weekly or by weekly. Keep adding polys until your problem is solves. Worked 100% for me. Link to comment
