switching to RO/DI from cali tap

so i convinced myself to get a ro/di for my autotoff water. I dont know what to expect really. anyone see any noticeable differences after using ro/di?

A friend used tap to start his tank, and issues with hair algea, when he switched to RO/DI there was a lot less algea on the glass and rocks.

Depends on what you're seeing now. I would expect less algae, but some tap is fairly clean, and issues don't crop up for months as contaminants build up over time. Some have no problems for ages and ages, then suddenly a pipe is disturbed somewhere between their tap and the water supply plant, and they get a toxic load that nukes the tank.

 

Using RO/DI is preventative, so unless you're actually having problems already, I doubt you'll see anything drastic.
