Rehype
i am actually cycling the tank That pretty normal when your tank is cycling. If its really bad float some carbon to pull out some of the organics and to curb the smell Link to comment
johnmaloney
+ 1 to activated carbon getting the yellow out...9 days or use more Link to comment
jonnyfalmouth
so if i dont use carbon will it clear up im also waiting on my new sapphire skimmer to come in will it help clear it up Link to comment
coolwaters
skimmers doesnt really clear all the yellow stuff out. carbon is probably the best bet. or lots of water changes and less feeding. Link to comment
jonnyfalmouth
would it be okay to put the carbon in the middle chamber of the biocube and if so what about purigen is this okay to do while the cycle is on going because i would have to take out the bioballs? Link to comment
Rehype
Sure you can put it in while your tank is cycling. It wont cause any adverse affects Link to comment
jonnyfalmouth
Thanks for all the advice Link to comment
jeremai
the bioballs should be taken out anyway. there's really no need for the purigen on a cycling tank, especially if you're going to run carbon. Link to comment
reefer916
During the cycling period for my tanks I just do small weekly water changes. If it really stinks you probably had a lot of die off on your LR. I usually bought well cured LR from established systems, which prevents a lot of the nasty stuff. Small water changes should clear things up. Maybe a gallon or so a day and it shouldn't hurt your cycle. Link to comment
