Macro dying!

Hi there,

I have a 20g tank, 130w of PC, with corals, fish and inverts. Nitrates

at 5ppm, ca at 460, dKH 10.8, PH 8.4, temp 80

Everything in the tank is doing well except the cactus macroalgae.

It's turning white and dying. I've been feeding the tank 2 - 3 times

daily with kent platinum pellets, hikari pellets, julian sprungs weed,

artemia and marine snow. Quite heavy, but still the macro doesn't

seem to be doing any better.

Any ideas?! Thanks.

When macro goes sexual it turns white/clear and just into mush. It realeases everything back into the water. It usualy does this about 30min after the lights come on. I had gotten some and the 2nd day I had it one clump went sexual and turned to mush. Bad thing to have happen.

Hi,

Are you referring to Halimeda algae? I used to have a bunch in 37 gal reef that came with some rock. It grew like crazy in there, so I put some cuttings of it into my 10 gal and within a day, it would turn white and die. I figured it might have been my razor caulerpa that grew like crazy in my 10 gal. But I'm not sure. I read that caulerpa can give off a pretty nasty chemical greeting to algae that's not related.
