newnano
Hi: Today is day 14 of my new tank cycling. I have been testing for Ammonia and Nitrate every other day since day 1. I'm using Aquarium Pharmaceutical Test Kits. I always have trouble figuring out what the ammonia reading is. I've attached a photo of today's ammonia test. What do you think it is? It seems to me that it's about 0.1 ppm. Am I off? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Link to comment
sukeband
Yeah i gave up trying to get accurate readings off the AP testkits. Broke down and bought some safilert stuff. Link to comment
myelin
Different monitor settings won't allow you to get an accurate reading for other's over the net. Who would have thought! Link to comment
sukeband
Yeah, I sympathize though. The amm kit by this place really gives weird colors. Link to comment
Paulc
I think getting the correct reading is easier if you squint X) a little when comparing the colours. I'd say the reading is closer to 0.5 ppm Link to comment
MrConclusion
Try testing some freshly mixed salt water. This will show you the true color resulting from a 0 ppm sample. Often the printed reference cards leave much to be desired. Link to comment
sukeband
This test kit gives you 2 cards for reading, one card has the colors for fresh water and another has the colors for salt. The salt colors around the .25 - 0 mark are really different from the freshwater colors. This seems to tell me that specific gravity toys with the readings. (Ie less SG means more towards the fresh water colors?) Which means that this test is kinda inaccurate? i dunno Link to comment
