Guest LudavicoTechnique
If I use a 10000k Metal Halide bulb for my 10 gallon Nano, do I need to install Actinic Lighting or not? Link to comment
reefriot
that would only depend on if you want your tank a little more blue? 10k is a great bulb for a nano! Link to comment
jay2k2
15,000k or higher no! 14,000k and lower YES! Link to comment
reefriot
why do you say 15k or higher is a no-no? just wondering as a friend runs a 50k iwasaki and loves the color and his tank hasn't shown any i'll effects. Link to comment
Satchmo
I think he meant you don't need actinic supplimentation at 15K or higher. Link to comment
NanoReefer53
with a good 10k bulb you wouldn't need actinic lighting although it would be more aesthetically appealing. It would also benifit softies more. If u want to use the bulb alone, I would go with the Aqualine 10k bulb. My AB bulb colored up realy nicely and has a blue tint to it. Although it is rated at 10k, it's really around 13k. Link to comment
Mr_Spam
a 1000 watt bulb would fry your tank unless you place it 3 or 4 feet above the tank and you tank would still over heat. a 70 or 150 watt HQI is a better choice for a 10g. I would suppliment actinic anyways no matter what bulb you get. corals and coraline benifite greatly with more actinic and I like the purple/blue look. remember as you color temp gose up your intencity gose down.
