Crakeur
best things to do while cycling: 1. peruse the online vendors for animals. research the animals. 2. stare at the rock to see if anything is in there. 3. read up on the essentials. maintenance etc. 4. scour these boards and learn as much as you can. 5. view porn. Ask tinyreef for some suggested sites. 6. count your money. it's fun to do and you won't be able to count what you don't have real soon. good luck with the cycle, keep us posted on the tank's progress. Sharkie
I have been doing number 2, but have not found any hitchikers as yet. I'll keep working on it though Tinyreef, porn sites always have the best news articles, right?? Link to comment
maroonclown
You could show of your "invisable" fish to your friends, then, while they aren't looking, take their wallets!!! Spend your time the way I did: 1) wake up and go to work or school. 2) run home from school or work and go to your LFS. 3) read every aquarium book they have, but don't buy a damn thing. 4) stare at their fish displays. 5) ask to buy 1 oz. of live rock, then after they get 1 oz. of rock, say it is of poor quality and refuse to pay the $.50 it costs. 6) (omit if they don't carry sharks and eels) say to the sharks "you can't bite me, nanananananananananana". 7) Leave when the police take you home. 8) repeate until tank has been cycled. Fomob
As lame as this sounds I keep a few fake corals that I got from Dr. Mac and Sons. I got them initially because I wanted to see how they looked. I run a chain of private schools and I have REEF Clubs set up in three of the elementary schools. We work with primarily soft corals, etc. I thought it would be good for the kids to see some hard acroporas without risking killing them because we do not use Halides. I have since found that they are a nice addition to any tank during the cycling process. Takes away the boredom, they look farily good and when the tank is ready for live inhabitants simply remove the fakes and set them aside for the next assignment. They are reasonably inexpensive in the small size and it gives the tanka bit of a living look while it is cycling. It also helps me determine where I am going to put the live specimens. Just another alternative. Link to comment
