oceanbreeze
hi all, hope someone can help me out here please, tank has been set up since saturday, so today i thought i`d check my readings ammo 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5 sg 1.015 i know this is low so what do i do here?? add more salt?? should i leave it while its cycling? thanks for any help here Link to comment
CosmicAquatics
Yea, I would add salt to bump it up to at least 1.019. I wonder how your nitrates are 5 and ammonia 0 when the tank is brand new. Did you use water from another tank? Link to comment
oceanbreeze
no my ro water was from my lfs, my tank has lr in its only day 5 thought this maybe abit early for readings? so it will be ok to add some more salt can this just be added to the tank or do i take some water out and mix then add back to tank?? will check nitrate again tomorrow thought this was abit strange was hoping for ammonia really to say its started cycling?? thanks for your advice here Link to comment
Warehouse41Ant
If there's nothing in your tank you can just add it to the tank. I'm assuming you already have some circulation in there to mix it up so it won't settle on the bottom. If you just have LR in there I would think you could just slowly add salt straight to the aquarium. I wouldn't dump a cup in all at once, but you should be safe to do it that way. Anyone disagree with this? Link to comment
oceanbreeze
hi thanks for your reply on this, i have got sand in so i was going to take a litre of the water out mix some salt in then slowly add it back in will this be ok?? also i did do some water testing today ammo 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5? i have check this again and its in between 0-5 but not 0 will have this checked at my lfs but not till next week the kit is api liquid one seems strange to have that one but no others??? plantarms
yeah the best way would be to take water out and mix in more salt rather than dumping salt into the aquarium, it would probably not mix as well that way especially with a sand bed puts some pics up of your new tank! Link to comment
nanoreefnate
add salt until you get around .025 thats what SG your aiming for. Link to comment
CosmicAquatics
Yea, 1.025 for reef and I would definitely recommend mixing the salt with water before adding it to the tank. We all love pics here so snap a couple of your tank. Link to comment

oceanbreeze
anyone any ideas here please?? ive added more salt so hopefully will be nearer to 1.025 tomorrow but its the nitrate reading confusing me??? Link to comment
Maddevil1
If your LR was cured, you will not have much of a cycle. When I set up my tank, I didnt have much of a cycle and my tank was ready in 2 weeks. Link to comment
oceanbreeze
ok thanks maddevil, but stupid question how will i know its cycled if only nitrate?? as you can or will always have a reading there?? Link to comment
