treygarz
Would DI water rated/purified/whatever it's termed @ 18.1 micro-ohms (i believe) be ok to use in a reef tank? Or should I stick to distilled? Link to comment
AZDesertRat
Absolutely. DI at 18.2 megaohms (not micro ohms) is as close to pure as you can get, much better than distilled. There are few hobbyist grade DI filters that will acheive that level, where are you getting it? Link to comment
treygarz
Sweet! thanks for the info and sorry for the mix-up of mega and micro! I am getting it from the university i go to. They have a nice little DI unit. Link to comment
CosmicAquatics
I have a DI unit and I love it. Pure 0 TDS water on demand, no waiting for slow RO membranes to filter 100 GPD. Link to comment
AZDesertRat
DI by itself is not a viable option for most of us. With the average TDS around the country about 250, DI would not last long at all. Plus DI by itself is not good at some contaminants with low ionic strengths so will not produce the same quality water as a RO/DI. Then comes the issues with regenerating DI resins which involves caustic and acidic chemicals.............I'll stick with my RO/DI, 4 or 5 gallons an hour is plenty for me. Link to comment
