matt the fiddler Posted November 19, 2003 Share Posted November 19, 2003 long time in process fresh water convert here.... my plan.. 10 gal, w/ sump- will switch to 20 gallons w/ sump in a few months... anyways.. setting up my tank and ........setup. the question is.. 1-should i wait to get the live rock cycling till after i build my light fixture? then 2-once i get the live rock and sand in.. how long can the tank sit cycling before it needs attention.. 2 weeks to the first water change or what? [might set it up.. then go visit the rents over thanksgiving for 5 days or so] i can wait- but that is 5 less days to cycle if that is time i am not "needed" to be watching over the tank. so trying to see if i shoudl push for setup now.. or wait a few weeks.. matt Link to comment
birdman204 Posted November 19, 2003 Share Posted November 19, 2003 do the rock, it can sit , just make sure you have good water movement. about the lights, no lights for the cycle. oh, and I would just get the 20G sump now if you can. save you time / headache later. Link to comment
matt the fiddler Posted November 20, 2003 Author Share Posted November 20, 2003 no- 10 tank, 10 sump.. now, 20 tank, 10 sump... in a few months once i move some under conditioning for breeding freshwaters out of it... was planning on keeping the sump- and just dumping the 10's stuff in the 20 .. and slowly bringing it up to 20 gallon live rock capacity.... might as well wait till the sump system is done then..
