lowesman Posted September 14, 2009 Share Posted September 14, 2009 I have been having problems with algae mainly green algae growing on glass and a algae that almost looks like dust on the sand and it grows on the bottom of my live rock. Also my water has got a smell thats different than usual. What should I test for im worried. Here is the specs I can think of about 1 year old 34 gallon Solana lawnmower blenny heavy amount of SPS about 30-40lbs of live rock running a 150w aqua medic light a tunze 9002 protien skimmer and 1 pump vortech mp10 Any help would be great if you need anymore info let me know. atlweb Posted September 14, 2009 Share Posted September 14, 2009 Most bulbs should be replaced after 8-9months, so that could be a problem. Also, I would test your water params and see what the levels are looking like exactly. You could be a little high in something. Link to comment

Rocket Posted September 15, 2009 Share Posted September 15, 2009 You mentioned smell... Do a parameter test. PH Ammonia nitrite nitrate would be a start. Phosphates, KH, Magnesium would be optional tests. Picture of the problem helps. We need tank parameters. The phoenix bulb reportedly is good for 1.5 years or more based on light intensity values.
