I have been having problems with algae mainly green algae growing on glass and a algae that almost looks like dust on the sand and it grows on the bottom of my live rock. Also my water has got a smell thats different than usual. What should I test for im worried. Here is the specs I can think of

about 1 year old

34 gallon Solana

lawnmower blenny

heavy amount of SPS

about 30-40lbs of live rock

running a 150w aqua medic light

a tunze 9002 protien skimmer

and 1 pump vortech mp10

Any help would be great if you need anymore info let me know.

Thanks

Most bulbs should be replaced after 8-9months, so that could be a problem. Also, I would test your water params and see what the levels are looking like exactly. You could be a little high in something.

You mentioned smell... Do a parameter test.

PH Ammonia nitrite nitrate would be a start. Phosphates, KH, Magnesium would be optional tests.

Picture of the problem helps.

We need tank parameters.

The phoenix bulb reportedly is good for 1.5 years or more based on light intensity values.
