aj1au
Hi All, this is my first step in the world of Nano's Im planning a set up of FOWLR at the moment in a 40 Liter - about 10 G. The question i have is that will crushed coral base work as effective at filtering as LS? I have heard that sand can stink but crushed coral can aviod this Any advise??? Also can pool salt be used to make up the salt mix or is it missing the other trace elements that are needed? Link to comment
nalbar
you REALLY need to read up! use ONLY salt designed for fish tanks as your salt. do not start this process until you read up more. start with the 'information' button in the upper left corner of this page. Link to comment
aj1au
Yeh - i knew that was a stupid question when i wrote it but something i was thinking about since it was advertised as sea salt. Link to comment

Volcom
You should use the search button, but to answer your question..... Crushed coral has been used but is a lot more work. You have to clean it or it will house nitirates. Sand is the way to go. Link to comment
