New Frags in our Nano!

Just wanted to share a few photos of our new frags. You won't find these photos on our website :D We received 3 stalks of Xenia, a Tree Leather (Capnella), 2 Large Green Mushrooms, a small bunch of Feather Caulerpa, and a few hitchiker polyps (see pic below) and bristleworms. There are more photos of our new frags as well as the amazing soft coral reef system that they came from at the site in my signature.

We have spent alot of time staring at our Nano since we received these new frags. The Xenia is really neat how it pulses endlessly. It really adds movement to the tank. We are going to split up the Xenia and put the individual stalks on the Live Rock in a few days.

Our new Mushrooms are wide open unlike the 2 that we got from our LFS, and the Tree Leather is all wide open and seemingly happy in our Nano. So all seems well so far.

Very nice! I don't think I've seen a xenia as pure white as the one in that pic. And that big shroom is beautiful- it looks like it really glows under actinic.

Thanks for the comments! :D Hubu so far I only have Prime Reef flake food, which I know is one of the things that were fed in the tank that these corals came from. I will also be going to the butcher to get a shrimp or two to chop up and spot feed the hitchhiker polyps in hopes that they will grow/spread. Any suggestions on other types of food for the leather/xenia frags? What have you been feeding your Finger Leather?

tinyreef I'm glad you like the photos. :D The camera used for the pictures posted on this thread is a Sony Mavica MVC CD-300, but on the website in my signature, some of the photos are taken with a Canon EOS D-60. If you scroll to the bottom of any given picture on our, you will see camera details which tells what camera was used for the photograph. Most of the photos were taken with the Sony because of the macro lens. The Canon takes much better shots than the Sony however, and when we get a macro lens for it, the photos should be phenomenal. There are some shots that my girlfriend took of Sharkdudes reef with her Canon camera here http://www.oc-creative.com/reef/sharkdude.asp Below is one of the photos taken with the Canon by my girlfriend that is posted on the site.

Ill try to get one with the Canon here in a little bit. It should take a better full tank photo.

i m feeding the xenia and finger leather Roti-Rich. so far everything is great. the xenia is spreading like wed and the finger leather, which i had to keep in a make shift tank for 4 days in miami, is doing great not. if it grows another 2" by aug, then it would be too high for the 10 gal tank.

Asterix,

I hate to say this but I have no idea. The Tree Leather was also described to me as Capnella if that helps out at all. I will go look on the net for more information about Colt Coral. You are the 2nd person to comment about it looking like Colt Coral. :) HuBu had asked about it being a Colt Coral on reef central. HuBu would you care to chime in on this issue please?

Thanks

zaraleo I got the frags from a fellow reefer. The best way!!

NaNO ReeFiN 2 different cameras. Sony Mavica MVC CD-300 and Canon EOS D-60. On our site http://www.oc-creative.com/reef, each picture has camera details right under the photo which tells what camera was used for the shot. :)

Here are some links I found with pictures and reference to Capnella sp. which is what I believe that we have. Not sure if this is the same thing as Colt Coral or not. I will do some searching after dinner. :D

Capnella is a Kenya Tree Coral- looks like that may be what you have. According to Borneman's book "Aquarium Corals" there's a lot of confusion in the hobby as to what a colt coral actually is. Apparently, there are many different corals that seem to mistakingly get the label "colt".
