SALIFERT MG HELP

So, I'm trying to raise my MG to about 2000 to combat Bryopsis!

This test is kickin' my ass! I added a full 1ml of Mg-3, then refilled, and my final reading was .4ml after it turned grey... Is my level really 2400??? :o

Or... Am I just a dumb-ass? -_-

Thanks all!

Thanks all!

Just a dumb ass. ;)

Id say you got repeatable results your prob right. I hate testing. <_<

Im assuming you havent been dosing MG w/ your bulk reef supply kit??

Edit: you are dosing the bulk reef supply kit right?

1 full syringe = 1500 ppm (mg/L)

If you read 0.40, according to the paper in my test, you have 900 ppm.

That does add up to 2400 ppm but I don't know if you can add them like that... Prolly best to enter the paper values in excel or another spreadsheet and plot a regression line.

I was bored...

So the equation given on the Saifert Mg sheet (ppm Mg = (1- reading step 6) x 1500)) is correct for any amount of addition so long as you switch the sign of the addition after the first syringe.

So if you plug in your value -0.40, that means you have 2100, not 2400.

Of course, there may be some error here because when you pull the syringe plunger up to 1.00 mL, the liquid only comes up to 0.74 mL but that shouldn't matter. Because you are pulling the plunger from 0 mL up to 1.00 mL, you are drawing in 1.00 mL of solution even if it doesn't read it (because 0.26 mL is in the tip).
