Curing liverocks

NO

if you are just setting up your tank and waiting for it to cycle you don't need cured LR it will be fully cured about the time the tank is done cycling which will be 4-6 weeks depending on conditions

the rocks cure when things that are dead on the rocks or dyding have completely fallen off and this deceay adds to the cycle

MAYBE

if your tank is already cycled and you have fish. it can cause a new cycle with an amonia spike followed by nitrites then nitrates. which if you add alot to a nano can be bad IFf you monitor it and are prepared to do water changes no harm will come

How about I use a commercially prepared nitrifying bacteria to speed up the process? Will the decayed parts of LR also died down by the time the tank should be cycled? Is it advisable to use this commercially prepared bacteria?

You can add commercial bacteria cultures, but it probably won't make a huge difference because there are lots of bacteria already present on the rock itself. Also, if you use Live Sand, it brings in tons of bacteria.

Of course, biodiversity is a good thing, so asdding bacteria cultures couldn't hurt. However, you may be able to better spend that money on other things for your tank.

it will speed it up but

Nothing done fast in a Nano yields the best results

plus the added bacteria does nothing for the long term but cycling the tank slowly and adding thing slowly helps things balance and stay balanced as the bacteria in the tank becomes used to the bioload if you wait the 4-6 weeks and monitor the water every week with tests of the amonia and nitarates you'll know for sure when the tank is ready for your clean up crew and maybe your first fish

waiting and taking your time will bring the best results

something to think about is adding fish last has its benefits as weeel

When cycling with LR and LS, do I just wait for the ammonia and nitrite to subside? Or do i need to cycle it with a few drops of commercial ammonia to?

woh commerical ammonia. why buy ammonia when you can just #### in the tank? if you dont wanna ####, just go to the store and get a cocktail shrimp, and leave it in for a day or two. then take it out, ammonia should be kickin after a day. Same results with #### :)

LOL....yeah you can do that.

What everyone is getting at is in a new reef enviroment the live rock that needs curing will provide plenty of ammonia from the dieoff and it has planty of benificial bacteria to colonize again rapidly. There is no real reason to add anything to the tank to speed up the cycle since it will occur rapidly on it's own. You should spend that money on more usefull reef items. One of the worst things to do to any tanks, especially reefs, is to rush them. Patience and letting the tank cycle naturally will be the best way to cycle your tank.
