colt coral sucking

For the last couple weeks my colt coral appears to be dying.

I can't figure out what's wrong with it.

My shrooms & star polyps are doing fine.

I have a 10 gal with only 20 watts of PC. I thought it may be the lighting but if my shrooms & star polyps are fine then I'm not sure. The colt was doing fine for a couple months under this lighting as well.

My water parameters are fine as well. I don't dose just 10% weeking water changes with Kent salt.

Any suggestions on the cause??

Second I'm assuming soft type corals are still alive until the day they detach from their rock?

  • 2 weeks later...

do you have a picture, andyour physical symptoms are rather vague...

how exactly does it not look like it is doing good ?

some shrink away to nothing, others suffer melt down.

I'd say that there is issues in your waterquality and lack of nutrients.

any recent test results ?

reply awaited.

thanks for the reply.

I don't have a digital camera yet so sorry no pics.

Test results:

Ammonia = 0

Nitrate = 5

PH = hard to tell with the cheap Hagen kit. The color codes make

it almost impossible to tell. It could be anywhere from 8-9

that's all I test for.

Originally it would open up in the day & branch out. Now it just stays shrivelled up. I came home today & discovered it now has split in half. 1/2 attached to the rock & the other half floating around. It would appear to me to be dying/dead. Should I take it out?

Since everything else in my tank has been fine I don't get it. Although caulerpa has never faired well in my tank either.
