tinyreef Posted October 18, 2003 Share Posted October 18, 2003 i don't think there's any real 'rule of thumb' for that. it's more of a how much space do you need for what kind of stuff you plan on having? (e.g. HOB or outside skimmer, refugium-yes/no, return pump in/out tank, algae scrubber-yes/no, etc.) one thing you ought to plan ahead besides all that is the possibility of a power failure creating a siphon back to the sump from the display tank. you might want sufficient extra empty volume in the sump to be able to handle that to prevent overflow. hth Link to comment
