Fluval 3 Conversion

I am using the stock power head from a aquastart 320 bow front tank. It was used to power an undergravel, which i have converted how ever i have found a way to run my heater inside an old fluval 3 internal filter, i was thinking of housing some filter floss and chemi pure elite in the filter also by removing the internal fittings in the filter chamber and placing the desired media.

 

Could this work? Would the water movement be too much? 540lph is the rate of the fluval 3 and the power head i use now is 400. I could always angle the water movement to hit the tank wall first before it reached any corals so removing some energy from the jet. I think this would me much less ugly than having a heater and this:
