MrConclusion
Not really, because you're up against the fact that they're produced in very small runs, so it's really no cheaper for the manufacturer than 150 watt or 250 watt. It's not the materials in the bulb that are costing the money, it's the time and effort of manufacturing them. A 70 watt bulb may be a bit smaller, but it's just as difficult to manufacture. If you want a 70 watt, you need to have a sense of humor about the bulb cost. If you want the most bulb for the money, go for 150 or 250 watt. The fixtures and bulbs are only fractionally more expensive. (Unless you have a DIY system planned.) The cheaper (Catalina?) bulbs seem to be somewhat trashy in most people's experience. When I see a post saying "My Catalina starts almost every day" I get worried! I never have a problem with Aqualine Buschke (Aquamedic) bulbs. They're not cheap, but they are fantastic. Their "10,000" burns at 13,000K, which is great for solo lighting. From a typical source, Aqualine Buschke 70 watt 10,000 = $88.99 Aqualine Buschke 150 watt 10,000 = $88.99 Aqualine Buschke 250 watt 10,000 = $88.99 Link to comment
