There are two pieces and by the diagram in the instructions it looks like it goes over the oval part (for concentration of flow? Looking at peoples tank pics I don't see these used. Do I just keep them in the box? New to this so just trying to figure it all out. Thanks! Link to comment

But I think that thing is to stop snails and crap from climbing in. They shouldn't climb in anyways while the pump is on although it happened to me once. The extra piece screws up the flow pattern and should be thrown in the trash. Link to comment
