darksong
I am going to be starting a small reef tank in the next month or two. I would like to have a varity of corals, LR, LS, invertebrates. My question is... are seahores viable tankmates in a reef tank? I have several 10g .... but will most likely set up at least a 29g. Also have a 55g but it needs a few repairs before it can be used again... had salt in it three years ago... Currently have a 55 freshwater set up... but miss the reef tank... Link to comment
tinyreef
are seahores viable tankmates in a reef tank? depends on the reef section you want to emulate. reef crest or reef top would be unlikely. reef flat or lagoonal would be more likely. altho i've heard of seahorses existing in turbulent areas of the reef, probably in protected niches tho. hitchhikers would also create issues. (e.g. hydroids, crabs, etc.) horses are more species-tank oriented. very much like mandarins imo. (possible tankmate) non-stinging corals can be coupled but some require some decent water flow. macroalgae is a optimal addition, decorative and utilitarian. kaba over at seahorse.org has a beautiful macroalgae-forest setup. that forum is a great source for help on seahorse setup (obviously). hth Link to comment
