chrisc
Ok, my 10G nano is about a month and a half or so old, currently inhabited by a cleaner shrimp, a few blue legged hermits, small carpet zooanthid colony, a small bit of pulsing xenia and a little finger leather frag. When adding the leather this afternoon I dropped it on the sand. When i picked it up is was covered in some thin spiderweb like strands of translucent 'slime', to which small particles of the sand had stuck too. As a result of stirring the sand up a bit, a fair bit of this stuff has stuck to, and is now trailing off from, the corals and live rock and generally looking crap. Any ideas as to what it is and/or what I should be doing to get rid of it? (Although the cleaner shrimp does seem to enjoy pulling it off of his whiskers, I'm not sure he's eating any) Link to comment
Mnesarchus
It's just surface scum, totally normal. To get rid of it you can put a piece of newspaper or paper towel on the surface for a few seconds then take it out, or get a surface skimmer. Link to comment
chrisc
Hmm - the slime is actually on the surface of the sandbed (and now my live rock) rather than the surface of the water though... Link to comment
Mnesarchus
D'oh! Me just wokey up - me think sand means surface. I had that in my 10g at about the two month mark, it went away with time. Link to comment
