Question about pumps

Okay, so I got a pro clear wet/dry 4000 filter for a 340 gallon tank and a g4 protein skimmer. The protein skimmer comes with a sedra 5000 pump which pumps only 500 gph. I'm in the process of deciding if I will use an inline pump and drill a hold on the side of filter and hook up a bulkhead, then connect that to the return pump, another option I was considering was to drill a hole in a 10 gallon glass tank (I've done it before) and connect it to the end of my filter (next to the protein skimmer). What do you recommend? I didn't want to pay 400-550 for a inline pump when I can spend only 200 on a submersible pump that will do the same thing. I'm also planing on hooking the return up to a uv sterilizer and a chiller since my lights will be producing alot of heat and I want to use a canopy.
